RAI2E is on the front lines of the war against malaria in the Greater Mekong Subregion. In Thailand, RAI2E is supporting a team of researchers that is working to combat a major threat to global public health: artemisinin-resistant malaria.

RAI2E is partnering with the Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (Mahidol-Oxford Research Unit, SMRU) in Bangkok, Thailand. SMRU is working to provide quality health care to people living on the margins of society on the Thai-Myanmar border. Here, many people work and spend their nights in the forests, which puts them at high risk of malaria, and itinerant people and season workers often bringing the infection back home.

Bill Gates, whose philanthropic foundation is contributing to the Global Fund, posted a video about the race to eliminate malaria in Southeast Asia. Director of SMRU’s Malaria Elimination Task Force is interviewed in the video, and it shows some of the work that is taking place to address malaria on the border between Thailand and Myanmar.
