Key Activities

• To ensure increased access to and utilization of high quality diagnostic services at all health facilities
• To help strengthen quality assurance and control systems for malaria diagnosis
• To facilitate provide prompt access to quality, efficacious antimalarial medications at all public facilities and qualified points of care
• To assist in increasing the quality of malaria case management services provided by healthcare workers in public sector facilities
• To help provide community-based diagnosis and treatment for malaria in all remote villages in Zone 3.
• To assist in providing access to malaria testing and treatment for mobile and migrant risk populations via Malaria Posts and at specific access points (work sites and travel routes).
• To update national protocols and strengthen capacity to carry out all surveillance activities
• To assist in detecting and responding to active transmission foci in elimination target areas
• To assist in targeting and screening high risk populations and those traveling to or from endemic areas
• To assist in providing prompt access to quality, efficacious antimalarial medications at all points of care
• Assist in the monitoring of antimalarial drugs particularly in areas of confirmed drug resistance
• Help engage with the private sector on malaria case management to ensure provision of prompt diagnosis and effective treatment
• Help ensure the appropriate distribution of long-lasting insecticide treated nets
• Assist in operational research of innovative approaches for vector control in high risk groups
• Support insecticide resistance monitoring and entomological surveillance
• Assist with the appropriate rollout of updated malaria information systems (MIS) and information technology solutions for malaria control
• Assist the NMCP in advocacy for malaria elimination at all levels nationally and internationally
• WHO will also support the integration of drug efficacy surveillance into routine surveillance (iDES). Funding for the studies is provided through WHO, who will also provide a high level of technical support to NIMPE for conducting the studies.
