Key Activities

1. Deploy roving epidemiologists and field staff based on the specific epidemiological and political needs of the countries;
2. Technical support on the implementation of the WHO policy to accelerate P. vivax elimination;
3. Support the design and implementation of aggressive approaches to impact risk and deplete parasite reservoirs in populations with highest malaria risk
4. Discuss and develop with Thailand national malaria programme, strategies to reduce P.vivax burdern at the border with Myanmar such as mass drug administration or deployment of tafenoquine;
5. Technical support to the countries to plan, prepare, implement, and evaluate the new acceleration strategies in the five GMS countries;
6. Reduce burden in Myanmar and accelerate malaria elimination by strengthening program coordination and providing technical support to ensure full implementation of Malaria National Strategic Plan interventions.
7. Conduct coordination meeting among WHO staff malaria to share data and lessons learnt on malaria elimination in the 5 GMS countries, including bordering provinces/districts with specific regard to hard to hard-to-reach, mobile migrant and ethnic vulnerable populations’ movements and risk areas.
